I am also working on a project involving large terrains (helicopter sim/game), I am currently working on flight model and systems and will undertake the terrains soon,
are you going to share more on how you solved those problems ?
I am also studying Houdini for automatic terrain population I thought you might be interested in this very recent development called PDG for populating large worlds.

Thanks, we’re using a inhouse solution for the terrain generation. Do you want to use a copy of the earth as we do (that’s complicated ), or just a large “random” terrain?
