This is probably one of the ailments of the Fab launch because that seems to have turned the whole asset handling into an admittedly large and unified, but hardly functioning pile.
In the hope someone has found a way around this: I don’t have a clue how I can now update previously purchased assets like, in this case, Ultra Dynamic Sky. It’s still working fine in UE 5.5 but the version I have running now must be about a year old at least, and reading the list of latest updates I thought it wouldn’t hurt to update it.
But how?
The first problem is that I cannot find what version I currently have installed. I said “about a year ago” but that’s just my best guess based on remembering when I last did that. But really, I would like to know, and I cannot find it. I even did a word search through Ultra Dynamic Sky’s file system folder for “version”, but nothing came up. Well, there is a file UDS_VersionInfo.uasset but it does not contain the version of the asset.
So I checked the launcher’s inventory, which is at least not yet gobbled up by Fab. However, it’s not completely OK either, because for this particular asset it says “Not compatible with Unreal Engine 5.5”. Though it works just fine in my 5.5 project.
Clicking on it takes me to the Fab listing page, where it clearly is listed as compatible up to an including 5.5. But again, no way to upgrade the asset.
Anyone found a way around this mirror maze?
