I have now a new workstation that runs Linux mint 17.2 cinnamon (fresh install, ), Nvidia TitanX, 32Gb ram, CPU AMD-A10 7870k, kernel 3.16.0-38, Nvidia 346.72 (the Cuda 7 default ones, I need cuda for Blender) and the same problem persists.
The menu opens, start to open a bit offset from the center but then, suspiciously, auto adjust it’s position to be at the center of the screen and from that point on I can’t press any of is buttons.
Sadly I don’t have Ubuntu in any machine, but if you say it works on it that’s because it does 
I can record the error happening and upload for youtube if that helps?
