I think it will be good to have a sketchup importer or a exporter for those reasons :
-The free version of Sketchup don’t have .obj or .fbx exporter.
-There is some geometry issues at exportation with Sketchup for .fbx and .obj
-If I import my mesh and combine meshes, all materials are in the same mesh so it is difficult to find a material in this big list.
-If I import my mesh without combining, my groups and components are all separated, sometime even the faces.
-There is a problem with UV overlapping when building lights from models coming of Sketchup
For architectual visualisation in the rift from sketchup models, I’m trying the sketchup to unreal workflow.
As Fractal is saying, the FBX import is great except for the uv mapping made by Sketchup wich is wrapped and overlapped and the “degenerate tangent” message I get on import too.
Do you have any contact with the sketchup team ?
Would I get better chance to resolve those workflow problems between SK and UE by pushing on the Sketchup side ? or can UE developpers do something for us, who would like to remove the “re-make your UVs in blender” step.
Hi every one. Have you ever used Lumion, or are you completely noobs in this and wishing for the peak? The problem is not the asigning materials, but HAVING A PERFECT MODEL WITH BUILT LIGHTING, WITH NO OVERLAP, SPLASHES ON THE WALS OR EVEN HAVE A MODEL IMPORTED ( no could not find any node error)!!! I AM GOING CRAZY. PLEASE GIVE ME A SPECIALIST TO TALK TO!!! I JUST WANT A HUMBLE WORKING MESH !!!
I am trying to decide on a game engine for archviz/vr, and I like everything about UE except that I have not been able to ever get my SketchUp models to import correctly. Bringing the models into Max or Blender to unwrap the UVs is not feasible in our workflow.
I just downloaded PlayUp, but unfortunately have not been able to get that to work any better; hopefully I will figure out what I am doing wrong. Even if I do get PlayUp to work, I would much rather see native support for .skp files like Unity has. My models and textures come in perfectly, and they even update automatically when the model changes. I really don’t care for Unity other than that one feature.
I really hope support for .skp files is still a consideration; having native support would really help all of us in archviz that need to deal with constant changes and updates at the last minute. Anything that will save time (even a few minutes exporting and importing) would be extremely helpful!
