Though building a 64 bit shipping product for windows is not available for users through the Binary version of the Engine at this time, you are able to package a project on our Source build of UE4 from GitHub.
Moment, what? This is ‘by design’? I cannot package a 64 bit version unless I compile the whole editor myself? Why should someone even compile a 32 bit version today? For Atom notebooks?
I reached out to a couple of developers and it has been decided that we are going to try and get this feature into a future release. It does not seem that we can get this option into a new hotfix, if another hotfix for 4.7 is released. We are shooting for a later release (possibly 4.8) as to when we are looking to include this option.
At this time, I am uncertain as to when 4.8 or the fix will be released but I will be sure to keep you updated as I know more.
having this in 4.8 would be great. 32bit is not contemporary anymore, really. count me in as someone who is waiting for out-of-the-box 64bit shipping builds!
I have reached out to the developers once again and the option is being tested to be to implemented the 4.8 version of UE4. This option is subject to removal if we deem that the size of the package has increased substantially .
At this point in time, the feature is in our internal build. I am unsure as to when a build will be released to the public but I will be sure to keep you posted.
Was just about to jump into the fray here. I would like a 64bit package option in the normal Launcher version. Glad to see this is in the works. I’m surprised this isn’t possible by now.
Hi Sean, glad to hear that 64 bit shipping option is being made available in the binary version. I do have one doubt though. If I package using the 32 bit option, will it be limited to 2GB memory access?
Packaging using the 32-bit option will be limited to 4 GB space. 2 GB will be used for address memory and the other 2 GB is reserved for the kernal, even on a 64-bit host.
