The reason to use “Make Literal String” node is so you can use the string with other nodes. Turning it into a variable was an addition.

An even simpler method (might be newer than this question) is pressing shift+enter when typing in the text box. It behaves as expected.

You can press shift+Enter to insert a newline in any text box in the editor.
