Blobbing problems

The more reflective surface of the details on the bow are definitely a cause for some minor “blobbing”.

Another solution you may want to try is a cross-polarized approach to photographing the front section of the ship. If you shoot let’s say another 50 photos cross-polarized and you manage to align it to the rest of your ship you can use those images for geometry only and have the textures be generated from the previous images. That way you keep color information consistent but are left with a cleaner surface.

If you don’t have the option to reshoot, try to lower the max features per image / megapixel setting and set the detector sensitivity to medium or low. Doing so might make RC skip dubious and inaccurate points, keeping only the more relevant and stable ones possibly giving you a tighter alignment. If it doesn’t work on the whole ship use a selection of the images that focus on the bow and align those later as a component to the rest.
