I’m slowly getting into photogrammetry which I’m planing to use for smaller automotive parts. As my first project, I would like to scan multiple motorcycle parts. All somewhere around 30mm to 1000mm.
Since I have about 50 parts, I would like to automate the “taking pictures” part a bit. (still an engineer by heart)

I was wondering what’s the ideal scenario for taking pictures.
- Camera on fixed position with a turning object or fixed object with a rotating camera? Also if the object turns, I assume it would be better to shoot it in front of a green wall and remove the green background in photoshop!? But wouldn’t it loose some reference data from it’s surrounding?
-Scanning 360deg: All parts need to be fully scanned from all sides. I’m thinking about sticking some marking points on the object to reference top and bottom to the sides. Would you see any issues with merging the bottom scan with the top scan?
- Light: should the light move with the camera or should I have multiple static lights around the scanning area?
-Any other ideas, concerns, or examples would be greatly appreciated
