Would be great if they used the best parts of max/maya and made a program specific for authoring realtime ready assets, like a pbr material system and voxel global illumination…
Autodesk Stingray
Things are getting more that interesting this year:)
Published yesterday on Youtube:
Im more hyped for the sculpting tool. Hope its sculpting like in Mudbox sculpting
From the mini-split second shots, It looks like a deformed baby of Unity with Blueprints slapped on top :S
More like BitSquid-with-new-name-under-Autodesk-Eengine.
Right this shall save me $10.00
Finally they doing something with Bitsquid.
But it won’t be free Unlike Unreal Engine 4, Which is now FREE FOR YOU ALL <3
What a good day this is.
better Uv-ing? Higher export counts? Praise the Lord!!!
They’ve had less than a year with Bitsquid, so expect some marginal cosmetic changes, a subscription model, and half-arsed buggy releases with an Autodesk badge slapped on it - all until the technology atrophies and dies like Beast and Scaleform.
(Slight exaggeration for Scaleform, but it’s Flash-baased, so it’s not going to be around for much longer in it’s current form)
True… let’s see how it copes though.
Yup UE4 is free now!!:)) That mean’s you need to come with something super solid to challenge that offer else don’t do it:)
Autodesk Stingray the REAL threat for UE4?
Greetings everyone. I know that Epic, after two major announcements in one week, they killed both Unity and Cryengine (well not completely but on the way ). Now that many companies are making their own game engines (Deus Ex ditched UE so they could create their own Dawn engine), Autodeks jumped on the boat and are developing their own engine called “Stingray” : http://www.autodesk.com/campaigns/stingray . Everyone knows how much used Autodeks tools are used from Maya/3DSMax/Autocad etc and how every major company supports them with all kinds of plugins and additions. So with Autodesk, after making your models and animations you can import them directly to their game engine and make a game without the need of an external engine: something that may threaten all gaming engines in general. What will Epic answer for that? Maybe their own modeler and animation tool within UE4 itself just like 3DSMax and Maya?
Unity5 is free, how’s that ‘killed’?
Stingray is Bitsquid engine they bought some time ago. There’s no demos yet so we can only speculate.
It has been discussed here: https://.unrealengine.com/showthread.php?60912-UNITY-5-goes-free
You call this offer free: Unity Plans & Pricing | Unity ?
Better call it a demo !
This is just a rushed panic pirouette from Unity to counter Epic’s KO !
Even when UE4 was paid, it was more ‘free’ then what Unity offers now !
It has all the features an indie needs, for free…
I’d take issue with ‘all’ (no performance reporting), but the key word here is an indie. Singular.
Like most of the ‘devs’.
