It’s not clear to me if I can reuse these for different performance captures, or if there is expected to be a 1:1 relationship between identity and performance.

Yes they are reusable. You should only need to regenerate the identity if there is a significant change to the actors appearance. For extra safety on long shoots you can start the day by capturing the ID footage of each day just in case you need to regenerate the ID. Even then it will usually be unnecessary.

Just an observation but I’m finding that I’m not getting great results when attempting to reuse my metahuman identities.
