I predict AI will not be able to make original assets that are any good
âŚor copyrightable.
And I predict that in 2 years we will have a variation of this discussion too!
It wont be just good, it will be Great!. Especially when the AI Gen Model starts generating at low level atom-by-atom similar to the 12 Levels from Atom to the Biosphere.
OpenAI politics dominates the news right now but this is far more meaningful.
Is this the only time an AI executive has ever actually fallen on their sword???
- If youre going to make a ban demand or discussion, first start with facts, not word changing.
âown the rightsâ and US LAW âcopyrightâ are not the same thing. You even quote an old law that was created before AI, thus it is Not valid to apply to this.
E.g. If my elephant makes a painting, im not going to waste money getting a Copyright claim for it. But I still âown itâ since it was my trained animal that I own. Thus I can sell it, not someone else.
2D assets are annoying to me on the Market (because I dont want to see them unless I am shopping for that). Whereas it seems you are a 2D artist, thus you feel endangered by AI.
Thus since my point 1 above, it is better to give us a filter and give customers the choice of what to buy/look at.
How can we filter out everything except Music and 2d assets? I only see a way to type Blueprints and show Characters, etc. But not a way to exclude things.
That is correct. I believe that is intentional. If they had a category or filter for AI, theyâll get in big legal trouble.
Thatâs just not true, Artstation (which Epic bought recently) also has a filter for AI generated content, including in their marketplace.
Please, enlighten us. The only thing AI related I could find in Artstation was this checkbox on the low right corner. Thereâs no AI Channels nor Categories.
Thanks, this works great for the most part! Sadly it does not hide all AI generated content, as some people just donât mark their assets as AI generated, even though they clearly are.
Yes, they really need to use AI to filter out all the AI dross
I just found something bad about the NoAI filter. Someone sold a skill tree project/blueprints. He included his own icons (made with AI) so the preview looks good, we have something interesting to see.
(And as a buyer, I want sellers to include graphics, etc, even if placeholders, but not the generic ones by Epic since theres only ~6.)
But since the seller put in time to make his own icons, he had to label it as created with AI, when itâs not a graphics asset. This is bad.
Epic should let sellers not have to label âcreated with AI,â if the asset is not purely graphics - because then it would exclude me from seeing their Blueprints if we used the exclude AI filter.
I think Marketplaces should not give the option to Sellers if they want the âcreated with AIâ or not. Why? simply because, people LIE. Current AI systems can detect if something was generated from AI, therefor it should be automatic. Tags given by the system not the seller.
This of course if youâre going to allow AI content into your Marketplace, which is another hot topic. My first choice is not to have AI generated content at all, cause Itâs a shameless copywrite infringement.
So, I would use AI only to detect AI generated assets in order to be rejected from the Marketplace. Thatâs the only good use I see here for using AI.
Because âNoAIâ tag doesnât mean stuff was not done with AI, just that the seller doesnât want his stuff to be used by to train other AIs.
^This^⌠So, why not rename the No-AI tag Epic? The proof that change is needed should be evident from all the confusion above, right? How about: Not-For-AI / Canât-Be-Used-To-Train-AI tags or whatever⌠Just something more transparent. Unless this was a deliberate move? The tech industry has a rep for choosing terms designed to confuse. How often do âprivacy settingsâ / âcookie choicesâ ever lead to any real privacy or any actual choice?
The real weakness here though, is that ultimately thereâs no way to police any of this⌠No way to ensure the No-AI preference will be followed by an industry that feels 1000% self-entitled. At the top thereâs a fundamentalist type belief that they can just scrape anything. An enshrined right to take whatever you want. Why? because âAI is Godâ now or something.
Going to bump this LINK again as its worth reading imho (as it doesnât look like it was pushed out by big money vested interests). Unfortunately it was drowned out by the sacking / re-hiring of OpenAIâs CEO. All hail the âAI messiahâ who rose from the dead once again.
Unfortunately, the Marketplace has been littered with CreatedWithAI content for over a year now, whose creators focus exclusively on quantity rather than quality. I am firmly convinced that this will be extremely damaging to Epic in the long term and will unfortunately destroy the Marketplace in long term either.
Itâs simply no longer interesting to scroll through the Marketplace with so much AI-generated content, some of which is presented as subtly as if it were 3D assets. Distinguishability is becoming increasingly difficult and it would help if there was a clearly visible âAIâ label on the product so that you donât even have to click on it to make sure that it is AI content.
So far I havenât seen any reaction from Epic and I think itâs too bad that AI content is overtolerated in this way. Yes, there is the NoAI tag, but even this tag is used by CreatedWithAI products. Not even this small detail seems to be taken into account by Marketplace Support when reviewing the CreatedWithAI products. Why is there no real statement from you guys here @Amanda.Schade
Why do Epicâs investors tolerate such an approach? Why does Mr. Sweeney so? I think AI content is great, but at the same time I donât want to tolerate it as an individually distributed product on the Marketplace. Not only does the Marketplace violate its own guidelines by waving through so much CreatedWithAI content, it is also simply no longer content that has anything to do with Unreal Engine development.
I donât understand how this content can be approved hundreds of times a day. I see pink kitchen pictures and still lifes of fruit pictures on the Marketplace.
Itâs simple⌠they earn more money from AI than with us *. They donât a give shhit about your art skills nor creativity (for now). Theyâll dumb you any second they can, just like Unity. This is why you must not rely on their platform to earn $. Use them as a Marketing tool and do your own stuff on the side. Let both sides exploit each other.
- Until the Law updates and protects the Artistâs IP. New algorithms that detect 3D infringement may take a few more years but they will happen. Similar to how YouTube detects and protects Musicians from any IP infringement.
Reminds me of Napster. They felt like the kings of the World cause they had all the music available for free, without paying a cent to Artists. They felt untouchable for few years⌠until the IP Hammer crushed their kingdom and send them to ashes.
I doubt they do. I would guess that the whole 2D category (with and without AI images) is tiny compared to the rest. And I would guess that the whole profits on the marketplace are tiny compared to their whole business (e.g., Fortnite).
Iâm temped to think it might be people from living in a weak economy. Flood the market with AI garbage, you only have to get one or two hits from unsuspecting punters, and youâve made a weekâs wages?
I can see the logic, in a wayâŚ
Not sure about the 2D category. I know itâs easier for AI generators to feed them with pirated 2D content.
With Disney and Epic investing so much money on their upcoming Metaverse. Iâm sure theyâll be wanting AI generators to produce 3D content instantly. Theyâll find ways to add it as a service or subscription. That way, they continue to steal our 3D files while saving the 80% of our cut.
OR
If they really care about protecting Artists⌠theyâll enhance the protection of 3D files and pay us accordingly in order to share a healthy economy in the metaverse. Which would be ideal, but you never know, thereâs always a greedy bastardd with power.
