Affordable Landscapes 2

@MrMrC, Just a little more time left!

So will the volcanic landscape only be available as part of the pack or on its own as well? These screenshots are phenomenal by the way.

Everything in this thread is part of one big package.

Is there somewhere a tutorial for adding extra layers to the landscape material? can you list which maps are like Lowlands (1 big landscape), thanks.

Material setups are way easier to understand in AL2. Basically for adding a new layer you just need to add new slots to the LandscapeLayerBlend nodes to make room for the new textures. I’ll cover this in the next version of documentation.
Initially all landscapes were in tiles put together using world composition. But with 4.14 some unusual RAM usage bug showed up and I’ve converted all landscapes to single landscapes so no more tiles. Every landscape is 1 large level.

Sounds good.

Update 3 - Landscape 08 is in the works, and it’s snowy!

Nice work will grab this when its released  .

Thanks!

Early screens from Landscape 08!

Did a lot more work on lighting and landscape shader.

Loving the snow map! Will it have tessellation? Would also be cool if you have some ice areas too mixed in with the snow. Keep it up man! =)

Thanks! :o
Yes it has tessellation, like other maps. Not quite visible yet though. I currently have 3 snow layers, the first is smooth snow, so basically very little displacement, second has an average amount of displacement and the third layer has much displacement, I haven’t finished with the third layer yet though, not present in the screens. But here’s some more work, you can see the second snow layer added clearly in the first image below. I’m doing a lot of tweaks to the lighting to get things looking ok. Not there yet. :frowning:

@

As someone who lives in a place that snows a LOT, I must say the snow detail is very convincing, so much so that it sent chills down my spine as I think of trudging through it. It looks incredible.

Now, I must point out something though, (as someone who lives a place that snows a LOT)

When it gradiates to “no snow” on very round surfaces, the snow’s surface should become more bumpy and chaotic the thinner the layers become (counter intuitive, but the this image illustrates what I mean):

Aumaan Anubis, Thanks for the feedback man! Very appreciated!

Did some more work on the lighting. Trying to get it to look realistic. Not quite there yet.

Additionally, I just found that it’s cool to carve a hole in the ground. Thinking about what to do with it. ಠ_ಠ

That’s really great man, gg

The detail is incredible on that ditch O_O

Hey @ I was wondering what would be the processing cost of rendering the snow with SSS, I think it would be the final piece of the puzzle to get it to light like real snow (as snow is slightly translucent due to the space between the individual flakes, thicker snow has less of this effect, but it’s still present subtlety on the surface of all snow)

Thin layer of snow: stronger SSS, but a smaller radius.
Thick layers of snow: weaker SSS, but a bigger radius.

Looking absolutely amazing as usual. Definitely the best looking landscapes I’ve seen in UE4.

So AL2 is approved for the marketplace, but it’s not on gumroad yet? I assume it’s not discounted for cyber monday, since it’s so new?

I’ll give it a try and post the results.
