Abort Legal & Licensing

Oh, what do you mean? You mean the company cannot create VR/Visuals using the modified engine tools? They are not going to sell the modified engine tools itself. Could you please clarify? Thank you!

No you can. When you said putting the logo on, that sounded like a distributed product. But if it’s internal only it’s ok. And they have to be a licensee too.

Hi Atypic, my team is separating the engine tool part and middleware components(our middleware don’t include engine tools). We are thinking about distributing the engine tool part through the Unreal Engine network on Github. 1. Can we include the source code as well as an executive file of the engine tool part? 2. As the engine tool part is open source, the only way to get it is still through the Unreal Engine network on Github(cannot distribute offline) right? Thank you!!

1 - yes
2 - yes

Hi Atypic! thanks for your quick reply. Our engineer asked me if he can assemble an installer which will be used to download the exe from the Unreal Engine network on Github and then download our middleware from our website, then install the whole package? If this is the case, we have to make sure each person (who wants to download) sign up a Epic Games account and download under his or her account right?( We should not use only one GitHub account to download right?) Just want to make sure we are doing everything right. Thanks so much!

To be honest, I am only a lawyer so I can’t answer these questions from a technical perspective - i.e., I can’t say how possible it is to create an installer which, when used by your customer, will pull code down from UnrealEngine on GitHub once the customer is logged in. But from a legal perspective, I am ok with it if it only works when your customer has a valid UnrealEngine account.

Hi Atypic, thanks for your reply. I will make sure our customer has a valid UnrealEngine account before they pull code down from UnrealEngine on GitHub. Thanks again for being so helpful.
