4.14 Released!

I am having issue too, since 4.13 at least. It’s the THIRD bug I have that causes data loss. I really think the code behind blueprints should be reworked on UE4, for me it’s very clear that is very unstable.

I would recommend anyone using APEX Cloth to stay on 4.13. I’ve tested 4.14 and got all messed up Cloth Meshes after reimporting the Apex-Assset.
The Default Animation Blueprints (the Feature I’ve been waiting for) is also unusable for me as it just keeps crashing on assigning the BP to the Mesh.

4.15 should only deal with these Bugs. New Features are useless if they make Problems.

Спасибо, гений. Я сразу и не заметил.

Thanks

Hi DanMaksim.

If you believe you have identified a bug with the 4.14 release, please follow guide to report it. Einen Fehler melden - Unreal Engine

Thank you.

We are currently preparing a hotfix, which we hope to release within the next two weeks.

Cheers

Contact Shadows produce very strange results in our scenes, are they expected to be improved?

should be fixed in 4.14.1 HotFix.

@anonymous_user_1da90bc6, @,

Can we have a feedback on the Cooking process, if now the cooked content is the same on all platform and that we can only build once for all?

Thanks,

I’d love to see the comparison screenshots of 4.13 and 4.14, too bad those are only available on UDN…

4.13 didn’t use the right algorithm for the contact shadows so any regressions is not a good comparison, also the UDN post didn’t show anything different than what other users were pointing out in and other threads and AnswerHub. The issue has been resolved though and I tested it yesterday. Looks glorious now!

Cool, excited to see it. In our project we have contact shadows around distant trees, https://i.gyazo.com/9e0abd6383e6c3fbc92265dede6e74cc.png
they look quite noisy. Wonder if contact shadows can be blurred, or switched off depending on distance.

That sounds great! Could you post a screenshot of how they look like now? I would test myself, but the commit seems to be in the dev-rendering branch and that wasn’t merged into master for ~3.5 weeks now.

Edit: Ok, the fix is already in the 4.14 branch: https://github.com/EpicGames/UnrealEngine/commit/fed67fd0e633af9b6f50faa33044d00e212123a3
Quite a small thing, that made it look a lot better?

commit looks super awesome!

1 ms free performance in 4.14.1? Who would expect that in a hotfix

ContactShadows.gif

For the purpose of just showing off contact shadows only I’ve disabled “cast shadows” on the actors in scene. way you only see the Contact Shadows from using a moderate value.

The Contact Shadow Length here has been set to 0.07. A lower value could work, but I felt showed the quality difference between the two, especially with the foliage planes on the wall. You also don’t get the shadow crawl that happens around the shins of the character which when moving the camera around were could not be gotten rid of even with very small values. should help with those who were seeing inconsistencies with foliage at far distances like the tree trunks where the shadow would crawl up it’s side no matter. A good reference was of how could cause was posted by a user earlier in release thread.

Thanks very much for that awesome comparison! It really looks way, way better in 4.14.1

thanks for the update, going to go get it right now

4.14 Crash on FBX import, here’s a simple FBX file hope you are able to reproduce it.

Sorry if issue has been posted before.

, you need to submit an answerhub post following these guidelines if you want Epic Staff to look at it. (If you read through the thread you will see them state that repeatedly). The fact that you have a file to give them will help a lot.

Thanks it’s noted.

Meanwhile I found already submitted there.

is same issue as mine. Everytime i try to import fbx with animations, it crashes 4.14

So i shouldn’t re-post it I guess.

By the way if you or anyone else gets the to download that file (it’s a simple sphere with an animated bone inside) and confirm the crash by the time Epic gets back would help further confirm that it is not a local problem with some of us.

Thanks in advance!
