4.9 kite demo derived data cache

The kite demo from the marketplace has a 8gb derived data cache however the defaultengine.ini doesn’t make the project actually use it.

Hi Bontanicvelious -

The Derived Data Cache is used to speed up the opening of the Kite Demo Project. You can delete the 8GB of files, but the first time you open the project afterwards you will have to wait for the Project to recompile and assemble the stored data in the cache. Depending on your CPU, this can take upwards of 30 mins or more.

Thank You

The problem isn’t that the cache is included, its good it is, however the project doesn’t use the cache that is included by default. You either have to change the defaultengine.ini setting or it regenerates it in the default UE4 location, which is not the project folder, this takes a REALLY long time and ends up eating more hard drive space.

Either the project should be set to use it by default or don’t include it in the download as there is no point including it if you don’t use it.

Hi Bontanicvelious -

After a bit of testing I can see that there is something going on here that needs some further investigation. I have entered a bug report as UE-21408 and will keep you informed as we continue to investigate this issue.

Thank You
