I never used UE before. I just downloaded 5.3.2 and this pops up when I launch it.
My specs:
MB - Gigabyte B560 AORUS PRO AX
CPU - Intel Core i7-11700F
GPU - ASUS GeForce RTX 3060 Ti DUAL OC V2 LHR 8GB GDDR6
RAM - GOODRAM 16GB (2x8GB) 3600MHz CL18 IRDM PRO Deep Black
SSD - WD 1TB M.2 PCIe Gen4 NVMe Black SN750 SE
PSU - be quiet! Pure Power 11 CM 600W 80 Plus Gold
I would try a complete uninstall of gpu drivers using a cleanup utility if possible and reinstall to latest drivers. In my case when I got crashes it was related to out of memory in which case my 32 g memory wasn’t enough. I learned you can adjust your paging file up to 4 times the current physical ram which is what I did to have more virtual ram for game development otherwise my entire video stuff would crash. In your case because you have 16 g ram you could set your paging file up to 65536 max.
Microsoft recommended no more then 4 times physical ram for maintaining system stability on some other forum. Unreal Engine is worth it if you ask me. You can achieve great results/graphic quality with little effort so it’s worth it to do everything possible to get it to work right. In this case it really seems driver related hence the advice to do a “complete uninstall” then reinstall. I personally prefer to use ATI cards for development instead of GeForce cards just because of other issues I’ve had in the past with other engines. I just always seem to have better luck with Radeon even though GeForce could be okay.
Complete GPU drivers reinstall didn’t solve the issue nor did adjusting the paging file. Any more suggestions or is my PC just not good enough for UE5?
Your Unreal may be trying to start from onboard GPU instead of your 3060 Ti for some reason. Hard to determine the exact thing from this error. Try changing starting GPU option in Nvidia Control Panel for UnrealEditor.exe This exe should be inside of “C:\Program Files\Epic Games\UE_5.3\Engine\Binaries\Win64” as default.
And your computer a little bit more than enough to run UE 5.

Welcome to the Unreal Engine Community Forum. The advice @JPTInteractive gave above is definitely a good step. I’d also go through and reset your NVidia Control Panel drivers to global default. Have you had this issue/error from any other app or game? D3D Device Lost is something I’ve saw in a number of formats. I want to ensure we nail it down and find the culprit. Thanks!
