I’m able to download engine through launcher (currently downloading 4.2.1, but it is terribly slow having gone 39% over 12 hours. problem is that downloads come in bursts and download speed constantly dips to 0 B/s and sits there for a while before it downloads a little more only to return back to 0 B/s.
I’ve modified BaseEngine.ini file to include verbose logs and longer HTTP timeouts, but problem persists. I’ve also looked at logs which have this line repeated quite often:
[2014.07.12-11.13.36:128][ 0]FBuildPatchChunkCache: Still waiting for chunk 0017000A0029000600360283EAD1FC8F
I’ve attached logs, in case that helps and in case it matters I’m on a 15-inch, Late 2011 MacBook Pro running OSX 10.9.3 This is not a vital issue, since it seems I’ll be able to download engine if I give it a week, but it’s frustrating that download speed disappears.
Edit: I don’t know WTF is going on but it was sitting on 0 B/s for a good half hour until I downloaded a screen-capturing app to try to show what I meant and now it has consistently been downloading at >100 kB/s for past 10 minutes.
Edit 2: Well, it took a while but it finished downloading. Not sure what went wrong.
I too have been trying to download this on my mac since yesterday. To say that I have had to resume download after it crashes every 5 minutes or so would be an understatement. I have gotten all way down to 50mb left and had it resume at 1.5 gigs. It never resumes where it left off or downloads incredibly slow. This is making me seriously angry and is a total waste of time.
Edit: 18 hours later I finally got this to finish downloading. Can I have that part of my life back please…
I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing this issue, and I will begin investigation into this as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.
In meantime, and for best results, please be sure to review our suggestions for how to report your issues, and feel free to edit your post if you have any additional information to provide:
Hi, sorry you are having issues downloading - most frustrating of issues by sounds of it!
We are currently investigating a possible problem with our DNS host, but that’s not definitely going to be causing your issues. If you have increased HTTP timeout values, I think that unfortunately in your case, that may actually be making issue worse since you are getting genuine HTTP timeouts, each request will be taking much longer to fail off and retry.
I would also like to suggest, perhaps reducing number of concurrent downloads your Launcher is making. There are some suggested ini settings that I would like you to try out if possible. We are going to set timeout quite low as well to see if we can earlier fail genuine broken requests for a better average speed. If your logs start containing a lot of timeouts we will have to bump those numbers back up a bit but I have tested these on my Mac with a connection limited to 256kbit/s and it chugged away nicely still
