Download question

HI,
Just one quick question if i have downloaded the engine and some of its components via the downloader and happen to format the system with UE4 in an other drive would i have to redownload or can i access it??

Thank you for ur reply thats is a relief…

If you have entire build in some place saved on your hard drive you’re fine.

You’re welcome, you can accept my answer if you like

Hi maverick,

Just a bit of extra info. As Ubuska says, you will still be able to manually launch the UE4 editor from the install you kept a copy of, but the Launcher (downloader) will not yet recognise it as being installed, and so will not provide the Launch button or patch your copy when a new version is available.

We do plan to address this scenario in a future release.

A workaround would be to backup these two folders, before you format your system:-

C:\ProgramData\Epic

C:\Program Files\Unreal Engine\4.0

And then after you make you system changes, re-install the msi download, then close the Launcher without logging in yet. Restoring the above two directories will then allow the Launcher to find UE4 the next time you run it and log in.

You just have to make sure you install the msi to the same place as it was the first time round.

Hope that helps!

Hi,
I copied these folders in the same place to the new PC. Everything worked like a charm. All versions and all settings. Note that all personal information like the login information has also copied.

  • C:\Program Files\Epic Games
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Epic Games
  • C:\ProgramData\Epic
  • C:\Users[USER]\AppData\Local\EpicGamesLauncher
  • Desktop shortcuts

I suggest using a file compressor like Winrar or 7zip to faster copy/paste
