Hi ,

I think I’m the only one having problem with the Launcher since UE4.8. I’m using mobile data for internet connection since I live in country side. The mobile internet connection is quite fast (up to 8 Mbps) but fairly unstable. So whenever I get poor/slow connection I always click ‘Go Offline’ in the launcher, but the launcher won’t continue and stuck at the “Please Wait” window. I had to close the launcher several times until it can continue in offline mode.

Why this ‘Go Offline’ button doesn’t work as it should be: put the launcher in offline mode?

Hey tupikp,

Go Offline is unfortunately, not actually a no-internet mode. It’s more of an anonymous sign-in mode. So while the launcher isn’t trying to sign you in it is still trying to get updated data. Now if you’re actually disconnected from the internet the offline mode should still let you in, but it may be that you’ll have to wait for our query retry timeouts, or perhaps there has been a regression and it won’t let you in at all. I’ll have our QA department take a look.

Pretty not ideal situation, but it’s something we’re aware of and are working towards a solution though I can’t provide any kind of timeline for a fix.

I can’t access the Launcher since the update earlier today. Anyone else having an issue?

If you are experiencing an issue with the Epic Games launcher, please report the details of the issue to the Installation & Setup section of the Answerhub, and we will investigate the issue with you there. Thanks!

Re-locking topic again.

Launcher 2.9.0 - 2/3/2016
2.9.0-2853817+++Portal+Release-Live

Updates
CPU and Memory Usage
Over the past few releases we’ve been targeting memory leaks. release includes additional improvements. We’re seeing overall memory stability with expected fluctuation depending on ongoing actions. We’re continuing to remove leaks as we find them and are turning our focus on eliminating occasions of excessive CPU usage. Our endgame as we eliminate the leaks and spikes is to drop our baseline memory consumption significantly.

Selective Download for Engine
Versions of the engine 4.10 and forward now support a selective download system. With the new UI you can download the full engine as you always have or pick and choose based on your needs. In the current configuration you can choose to forgo the PDB’s, Starter content, and or templates for a smaller download.
If you change your mind select options from the engine slot dropdown and you can include the other components. Overtime the editor team will be able to provide more options to choose from.

Configurable Vault Cache Location
update allows users to specify additional locations for their vault cache. For example off the C drive to D drive where more space may be available. The vault cache stores on disk the files needed for various marketplace items. You can access the Vault Cache location option under the settings icon.

System Tray
The launcher now provides a System tray implementation to run minimized on PC. Engine versions 4.10 and ahead take advantage of this. If the launcher is called by the editor it will start silently and be as unobtrusive as possible.
Going forward, we’ll be adding features to the system tray to allow for user controlled auto updates of apps and content.

Other Updates
We’ve updated the prereq installation process to install the prereqs to a machine and not individual users. Where Launcher 2.9 is installed on a clean machine, non-admin users will not be presented with prereq UAC prompts
Lastly, we’ve added a retry button on some disk path and storage operations that will allow you to correct the issue and return to the existing flow without starting over.
