Dataprep > Import and re–import issues

Through Dataprep, merging objects together frequently results in meshes being saved to a Datasmith transient folder within the Engine structure, preventing geometry from being moved out and consequently not built with the game. Fairly critical to get this fixed.

Workflows for re–importing through Dataprep are also currently a bit questionable, the most reliable way is to delete all assets and content created through the process, and start again — not particularly efficient. Updating the Datasmith scene with the Dataprep option results in the same issues as above with geometry save locations being thrown around the Engine folders.

    Hi Richard,

    Thanks for the feedback.
The Merge operator should create the merged static meshes in a subfolder output you specified the dataprep.
If anything is saved in the Engine content, this is a bug.
Are you using a 4.24 preview version ?

    Thanks,
    Thomas

Just wondering if this will be fixed for 4.25? Can't see anything related to it on https://issues.unrealengine.com/

We're about to start testing Dataprep, and with regular Datasmith, re-importing was always troublesome (even some hard crashes that I've filed bugs for). I'm very disappointed to hear that Dataprep seemingly hasn't brought more robustness and flexibility in this area.

Re-importing is something we do probably more than anything else. It happens literally all the time throughout a project. CAD files are never clean, never up to date, and never complete. :P
