[GAUGING INTEREST] Modular SciFi Series: Where To Next?

    Greetings everyone!

With the third entry in the Modular SciFi Series, Props I, being released soon I am looking to gauge where you want me to head next. The series has many more content packs I'd like to include before rounding it out, but in the more immediate term 4 particular packs that I want to get your opinion on. The goal of this poll is to set the prioritization for these packs, as well as gauge interest. If you have an idea that isn't on the list, please feel free to share!

    Command Center
    - A pack focusing on command center architecture and props.

    Quarters
    - A pack focusing on things such as bunks, resting quarters, etc.

    Cargo
    - A pack focusing on cargo and storage

    Labs
    - A pack focusing on lab equipment and furniture

Each of these packs fall under the new Props category, and will go for $24.99.

So let me know which of these you'd like to see first, or if there is something I didn't include but you are interested in!

    Command Center Pack

    Quarters Pack

All of those packs would be great. Could you also add engineering to the list?
However i choosed living quarters, because those props can be reskinned to be used in command center, or labs.

        I vote for 'Other'...

I'd like to see what can SE_JonF do regarding Spaceships ... Orbiting Space-Stations, Moon-Bases, and then Command Decks etc...

What I liked about the earlier packs (space hallways / corridors etc) is that they weren't limited to specific sci-fi race / genre.
While prop packs are popular, a downside is once you get into specific living quarters / cargo / labs / engineering you narrow the focus.
That can limit the reuse of the meshes / textures, even if the writing / text overlaying each prop can be customized.
For those types of areas I like to just use 'leftover' meshes (so I'm afraid those sections don't get much love from me)

One of the things that TV & movies do well, is that they drop the ordinary and focus on the interesting, 'drama'.

        Example: 'The Expanse'...
You don't see the crew of the Rocinante sleeping / eating / hanging out in other areas much, they're too busy putting out fires on the bridge..
Sci-fi video games tend to over-focus on the mundane sometimes and forget that entertainment is action, and that means drama or nothing!

That is a great suggestion Nawrot, I will be sure to add that to my notes for the series as a whole. =)

Hey Franktech, thanks for your feedback!

Space ships are something I mentioned I'd love to tackle sometime down the line. My recent focus on more thematic packs is so that way I can provide more than just architecture. For those that want to populate their scenes with certain props, or create specific identifiable areas. That being said, there are more general architecture packs still planned! You definitely haven't seen the last of those. One thing I try to do in order to keep the props for the most part inclusive to many facets of the scifi genre is to provide multiple technological alternatives. Take for example my upcoming pack, you have 3 ways to unlock things: The key card swipe, the holo keypad and the handscanner. This provides opportunity for developers to choose which may fit their scope better. I aim to provide more alternatives like that in the future with other packs. =)

Also + 1 for The Expanse! I just finished that show the other day, one of the best on TV right now. =P

I bought your first two packs and will be picking up whatever else you release in the genre so I say all of it! For the quality, the price seems fine, bring it on

                +1 Sci-Fi Cities ........ Wishlist:

Modular kits as usual, but designed so that they offer enterable or open-areas like inner courtyards or building-walkways between towers.
Especially because Epic's own meshes are 'closed' in that they don't offer much or any reusable value...(Blueprints Office, First Person Shooter, Infiltrator etc)...
You can't enter them, they only look good at a distance, and they have little reusable value being mostly single pieces that can't be connected easily to other packs.

The Sci-Fi cities don't have to look OTT sci-fi by the way, they can just be highly architectural.
For instance leverage lots of curves or glass or reflective surfaces like Chicago / Dubai scrapers etc.
The Hitman buildings in Blood Money are a interesting template, especially this one (skip to @7:00 mins)

Not a lot to ask I know... Thanks in advance dude

All four are good options, but I would really like to see a lab pack with microscopes, cryo tubes, synthesizers, centrifuges, hoses, pumps, cables, and all that type of junk. A sterilization room to go in and out through, quarantine rooms, this is the kind of stuff I would love to see in this style.

I chose the command room... just because. However I would love to see your take on Ventilation/Maintenance shafts, which are common tropes for Sci-Fi Horror and Metal Gear solid type games, however they would add to the believability of any space station.

                      Hey Franktech!

Great feedback. That's something I'm actually looking to do with the exterior packs. =)

This might be taken as a criticism, but honestly its not... just an observation. Its almost like your stuff is too good... clean...shiny. As a person who is just learning Maya LT I am in no way suggesting I could even come close to your skills....but, sometimes I like that old nasty Battlestar G. look and feel. Warn out and used... Anyway, great work!

Cool, wasn't sure if that was too much feedback.
Interestingly The Expanse art direction didn't go overly futuristic..

That side of things is covered on the marketplace too, there's an old-school space-station mega pack.
To me the dark dirty space corridor (horror) thing is a bit played out, but having choice is always good!

Hey Teak! Your constructive criticism is valuable to me. The packs are intentionally designed to be clean at the moment, because of a particular style. As I continue to expand the series, I will develop different architectural and texture styles so that way it isn't all just 1. Think of it like in Mass Effect for example, you'd have different levels with distinctive texture pallets and architectural forms. The cool thing about the clean environments though, is that with decals you can pretty much make them as dirty as you like. I will look into how I can implement some myself in the packs, to give more options and variety. =)

There can never be too much feedback! Yeah I noticed that myself. At least in certain parts. Earth still had a modern-esque feel to it, while some of the things we saw on the belt were more advanced looking albeit still somewhat earth-like. I definitely got a lot of inspiration from there when it came to the ship interiors. =)
