Not to alarm anyone here, but is there any chance that all of us are thinking about making Spaghetti Western games? If so we should start calling dibs

Question re: Assets.

I'm creating some materials and textures for my project now. If I use reference photos from CGtextures.com as part of the process of making the textures but build on it to create something new and unique does it still count as being made during the gamejam? Is that something I should disclose when I'm doing the submission?

Hi,
The game jam ends on 13th October (is it utc -8?) ,cause i am from Malaysia (diff time zone) so i wanna make sure i can submit on time (not too early not too late). Is there a countdown timer for the deadline?
Thank you ^^

I would like one of the requirements posted clarified, if possible:

All art assets in the game must have a material other than the default applied to it.
Does this mean that if I use starter content, then I must change the material on the model (i.e., retexture the starter chair)? Or, not use the default white material applied to imported models / untextured assets? Etc.

Technically, everything you used as base should be disclosed too, you saved time from using existing textures instead of taking them yourself during the jam. What I'm more curious about myself, would it be enough in that case to just tell "Used various textures from CGtextures.com" ? (also, double check CGtextures.com license, you probably HAVE to credit them anyway, not only for jam but because their license tells so)

For example, Highschool 101 used this kind of mention when they used lots of sourced textures:
Textures

Lots of substance materials from substance share
Alexander Paschall any thoughts on that group tagging? Obviously it's been accepted in past (as the above mentioned game won that game jam). I ask this as it's way easier to just do that vs list each sourced texture / sound individually which could end up as huge list. If you think about it, it's basically similar deal as "used textures from engine content" or "used animation starter pack animations" which doesn't specify individual used assets but still clearly state the origin not being you or any artist on your team.

@Alexander Paschall

I've never been in a jam before so I have a question on how far one could go with interpretation of the theme. I mean, I assume that is part of it otherwise it would be more black and white than that. My entry is a play on words but both words "settle" and "score" are both used correctly in the sense it matches the definition of both; just not so obvious at first (since its a play on words). If it can be defined as such or if a dictionary can be used as a background to my game design angle, am I okay? Should I include a README and would it be even read? If anyone in the forum can comment on this too, I'd appreciate any kind of answer.

TLDR; I'm confident in my interpretation but I'm just wondering if a play on words is acceptable.

Thanks.

The theme is not very specific. You could even just develop a game without knowing the theme and then add a little clue to come back to the original theme. But a game jam isn't all about winning, so better be creative and imagine something that fits to the theme before you start to develop it.

Is anyone with some Animation-skills willing to join me? The (by now only) task would be to make a walk cycle and some attack animations. The model is already rigged, but I'm not very experienced with it either, so you have to take a look at it and eventually remake it. The model and textures are finished and I'm more the programming-guy anyway. I just finished a simple gun system, enemy spawn logic and some other essential stuff. You can either PM me, write me an email (janis.reinberger@gmail.com) or find "Janis Reinberger" on Skype.

I've figure out a way to end the game that is obvious to the theme. It took some thinking but the original game is still in-tact so I believe I'm good. Thanks!

I didn't quite understand the Theme.
Does settle the score can count as taking revenge or avenge ?
