melat3mg repliedOriginally posted by AndrewM47I also wish you guys didn't make this engine free for the following reasons:
The $19/m was a barrier to keep kids from making sh*t games and giving unreal a "bad name", look at how down hill unity has gone with all the little 12yr old's making sh*t quality games. Now when somebody says there game is made on unity everyone automatically thinks its gonna be a bad quality game and they become a joke! I personally had absolutely no problem with paying the $19/m and would happily start paying again if it mean't keeping all the little kids out!
Look, i have no problem with indie devs and i especially don't have a problem with young ones either, its just the little kids on there laptops that want to make a bad clone of slender or five nights and then brag that it was made on unreal and makes unreal look like PG rated movie. Look how professional cry-engine looks because nobody can afford there license's (before there subscription based service). I could ramble for hours on the many reasons why i dislike that this engine has suddenly became free with no regard to the consequences.
Now i'm going to just look like a troll/hater because people just want free stuff and are going to argue my comment to the ground. RIP my opinion.
May i request one thing for the future, since the engine is free and a load of kids are going to be complaining that the engine is too complicated. PLEASE DON'T water the engine down and make a "Water Button" etc. (pun unintended)

sh0day repliedWow, I almost dropped my coffee twice as I read and reread the announcement again and again..
For me this is the most epic event in game development ever and everything will change from now on.
Although I will probably never ship a game (just tinkering around), I'm proud to have been a paying subscriber for almost a year and wouldn't hesitate to do so again. I wish you the very best and hope you will succeed. (Are there T-Shirts "Have been using UE4 as it wasn't free"?)
Thank you so much EPIC, this is unbelievable and still completely unreal, love you guys
And thanks to this great community too, you really rock

ClavosTech repliedThe King is dead... Long Live the King... (UDK -> UE4)
Epic was getting a lot of love before... I can only imagine the free-love orgies taking place at Epic HQ after this
Seriously... For an awful lot of people it will be difficult to see the competition as anything other than: Why bother?... Every big player, every small studio, every Indie, anyone coming out of college, will graduate towards UE4 now. A game changing decision...Last edited by ClavosTech; 03-02-2015, 02:39 PM.

Now, I hate to be the super noob of the situation but... can I already install the thing? Because I've downloaded and installed the launcher, but in the Unreal Engine tab there's just a "No Engine Installed" button and I can't seem to get the option to download T_T

Akshara repliedDeeply moved by this decision. I genuinely choked up watching Tim's announcement in the video. With the dev grants, learning tools, twitch and youtube, I feel so genuinely supported by Epic in this journey, which is everything, as a solo developer in the midst of it all.
Thank you, each of you making this possible, so very much.

dev100000 repliedgreat, that basically means any issue now stays unresolved. No leverage anymore...
Like I go: in UE4.7, the 'watch value' in the level blueprint for variables does not work anymore. It worked in UE4.6 just fine in the same project.
Epic: What do you want? It is for free....
