Which version of UE works with 3D Max and Maya 2011 ?
oh really, that’s what I was just watching was the video on A.R.T V1 . So I would have to rig my characters in Max or Maya? Max 2011 has CAT Rig. I haven’t worked with any of the game engines yet I am an Artist , not a programer but I wanted to animate some of my 3 d max characters figured UE 4 was the easiest for an Artist. LOL
Even though those 3D asset programs are older, they should both work with any of the current versions of the Unreal Engine. As long as you use standard outputs (obj) there really shouldn’t be issues working with them. Sadly you wont have access to some of the tools that Epic provides for smoother Maya integration and workflow (A.R.Tv1 for example doesnt have a version that old).
Yea, the A.R.Tv1 is extremely helpful for creating bipedal characters! Its a tool developed for Maya (maybe Max too) so you’re still doing the rigging aspect of the character in those external tools. If you rig and animate those characters on your own, they should still be able to be imported and set up. What you really lose is the very nice animation control rig that A.R.T provides.
It could be helpful to export the default mannequin from the engine, (this should come out as an FBX).
From there you can import it to your 3D program of choice to better understand Unreal’s hierarchy and naming conventions for skeletons. If you use these conventions you could use the basic mannequin animations with your own characters.
