Totally not sure which CPU to get:
1920X or 1800X?
The Base Clock on the 1800X is a little higher and it’s TDP is “only” 95W.
But of Course the 1920X has more Cores, way more Cache but (supposedly) sucks at Gaming (i use this Machine for Work and Gaming).
So in terms of Photogrammetry we are using a max of 500 Pictures with the latest Reality Capture Build.
The Rest of the System is:
64GB DDR4 2666 Mhz RAM
500GB SSD for RC
nVidia Geforce GTX 1080TI
So what, and most important WHY, would you Guys get ?
Then you don’t need to worry at all. Almost any CPU can do that!
There is a thread somewhere where I think the conclusion was rather fewer cores with higher clock than the other way round, if that helps.
But again, with only 500 images (at even up to 50 mpx) I don’t think that the difference would be noticable.
Yeah normally we are somewhere about 500 per Object / Ground. Maybe more in the Future. With about 38 mpx (A7R2).
Right now our 4790K does the Job but you can’t work with it while it’s doing RC. And ZBrush has the Problem with Meshes that have more then about 30 Millionen Tris.
So we need a new Setup.
Hah, I use an i5-4460, so even lower.
Here’s the thing, even if you use a much faster one with many many cores, if you give RC the reigns, it will block everything else.
Here’s what I do: just lower the priority in the task manager. That means you will get the CPU time when you need it for low CPU priority stuff. It works quite well. And I am pretty certain the impact on the overall RC calculation time is marginal. And I did 2500 images with this method. The principle stays the same.
And zBrush will have those limitations never mind which CPU you’re using…
This is simple, more cinebench scores = better CPU for our work
