Weird inconsistent shadows problems

Some trees have shadows some do not. Some shadows are thick black splotches while other shadows are not. Some shadows appear where there’s nothing that could cause a shadow. How do I fix it?

Okay so Im very green when it comes to the correct lighting. I’m at that I dont know what I don’t know stage :joy: thanks.

Use the lightmap density view:
UE4_LightmapDensityViewMenu

Blue: Resolution is too low
Green: Resolution is good enough
Red: Resolution is probably too high

For landscapes the setting is called “static lighting resolution” apparently.

As an additional opinion, unless this is for a mobile or other low-end hardware project I would suggest using cascaded shadowmaps for your directional light, especially for foliage.
