VR - First Test failing

I created a simple Project File with Unreal Studio.

Content:

  • HDRI Backdrop
  • Sphere
  • using RayTracing

Project File for Download (45MB) Unreal 4.23.1:

When I test that simple project file with the Vive VR Gear, it’s not working.
Either the Frame-Rate goes down to 2-3 FPS and then UE4 is crashing.
Or it’s freezing.

I was setting up this project with Unreal Studio.

  • Do I need to change the Project Settings to VR?
  • Or do I have to do anything else to make that work?

In the UE4 Editor I do have 90FPS using an RTX 2080.

Question:

  • What am I doing wrong?
  • And how can I execute that simple project file with my Vive VR Gear?

Thank you so much for your help,
appreciate it!

  • Is it mandatory to start a VR file with a VR ProjecT?
  • Are there any specific Project Settings I need to consider when using a VR Setup?

Have you got “Lock to HMD” enabled? If I good remember having that disable do also disable “late latency”. And with that, it does massively decrease FPS. Also, it is good to know that this is still first generation of RTX hardware and it is more a proof of concept than a mainstream solution. It will take a few more generations of RT development before this tech can be pushed at the frame rates and latencies VR needs to work.
