Using animations on Old_Zombie character

I just purchased some assets for a game, one of them is the OldZombie which says it was rigged using the Epic skeleton. I’ve been trying to use the Zombie Starter Mocap pack animations on it (which also say they use the Epic skeleton rig), but they aren’t working.

At first I thought it was the animations, but I tried to add other animations as a preview to the OldZombie and none are compatible (not even the generic Manny animations for UE4 or UE5).

The only animations that seem to be available and work are the non-zombie looking animations that came with OldZombie.

How can I fix this so I can use other animations on the character?

Hey @kaotkbliss! Welcome to the forums!

What do the animations look like when you retarget them for your Old Zombie? Do they look weird? Were you able to successfully retarget your animations?

Could you provide screenshots of what you are currently working with so we can get a better idea?

Any additional specifics or information you provide could go a long way in solving your problem!

Thank you for your reply
I had attempted to retarget the zombie animations first as I thought perhaps the character and the animations were not on the same UE manny skeleton (one on UE4, the other on UE5)

I attempted to use the original animation, Old Zombie just stays in T-pose. Retargeted animations to UE5, Old Zombie still in T-pose, Retarget animations in UE4, they all crumpled up and got weird.

The Old Zombie is not a retarget option, only the UE4 and UE5 Manny retarget options. Also when I attempt to set a sample preview animation for Old Zombie, the only animations it accepts are the ones that come with the character.

Which pages would you like screenshots for and I will get them.

I messed around with this some more yesterday until I got frustrated and purchased a different character asset, of which I’m having the same issue so it looks like it’s me and not the character.

I did just find where I can select a new skeleton for the mesh (which I had completely forgotten about) But my first attempt was unsuccessful and caused UE5 to crash, but I will continue to experiment and reply back with my findings.

I figured it out
I had to go to Asset → Asset Details
Then under compatible skeletons → Add new and select the SK_Mannequin skeleton!
