Upcoming Steampunk First Person RPG

Hey there!

I’ve created this thread to showcase the game I’ve been working on with my friend for a while now.

It’s a first-person RPG with a strong focus on narrative and sandbox gameplay, set in a world where monsters have been a part of society for generations.

You play the role of Ayodele, a scavenger hired to handle supernatural threats and all matters of the occult.

Players are free to explore on their own, investigating events, uncovering secrets, dealing with monsters - creatures and humans alike - and tackling new situations as they arise, making deliberate use of the tools and limited resources at their disposal.

Time is a major driving force in how things play out. The world does not revolve around the players and the narrative continuously unfolds throughout the game, with new events developing each passing day even if you’re not around to witness them.

The game provides absolutely no outside information you can trust. Everything you read, hear or believe to know about the world is revealed by characters that are a part of it. And those characters are driven by their own motivations; they may obscure, manipulate and lie if that helps them achieve their goals.

It’s up to players to learn how to navigate this intricate and challenging place.

**Here’s some artwork from our game, depicting one of the locations players will get a chance to visit, as well as the main character Ayodele:

Impressive work. Environments look really polished and the gameplay looks intriguing. I’d really like to play this one! Keep us in the loop on your progress!

The game looks stupid good! Keep it up! How long have you been working on it?

We’ve been working on it for a couple years.

We’ve added some gifs to the OP, along with additional information about the game and a couple pieces of artwork.

This game looks insanely cool. Sent you a PM with some questions!

Looks awesome!
The gif with the moon and the mansion gives off a really eerie vibe, it fits really well.
Great job!

Thank you

This is probably the most impressive project I’ve come across on these forums. My favorite all-time single-player game is Dishonored (the entire series) because of how “non-linear” things are over there. Judging exclusively by your description, it sounds like you are working on taking things not 1 or 2 steps further, but more like 10. I think the quality of the art, as seen in the original post, speaks for itself, so nothing to add there.

That being said, I’m going to point out most “AAA quality” games which have been released in the last few years lacked the same quality in programming. I don’t think anyone would disagree on the exceptional art quality of ARK, Conan Exiles, Unreal Tournament, the last few Call of Duty games and so many others. They all started strong because they were eye-candy, and died very fast because the programming that was done, was done “just because it had to be done”. A good comparison would be between Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and Battlefield 1. Same general idea (even if different story and times), but one couldn’t care less about programming and the other is nearly flawless.

Thanks, that means a lot  I believe that happens because the visual side sells a lot more (which is the ultimate goal for the company, because without it there is no company) than the programming. You can’t tell if a game is very well programmed from a trailer and people need something to quickly decide if they are going to spend 60$ (which is a lot of money) or not. It’s unfortunate that most of the times gameplay takes a back seat to graphics, but we are visual creatures, so that’s probably not going to change in the near future.

It looks really Good ! Great Job!

Nice work guys!

Thank you very much  My friend and I are hard at work trying to get the game announced as soon as possible  If you are interested in hearing about the latest you can check our twitter at https://twitter.com/NocticalStudios.
