Unreal Events should trigger real world lights

Hi there,

for an exhibition event there should be a tiny interactive show game. Events within the game (like collision, countdown, etc.) should control several light source in the real world.

Current approach is to write a short C++ script to gain control over COM port (usb) and to control the light sources with a digital relays/switch.

Has anybody input for approach, hardware or even a script that might be used for such a task?
