I’m principally reconstructing interior space(not really the best use-case for RC) with un-calibrated camera and a correct but definitely not really good image quality 
(But a lot of images)
So RC alignment can easily get “lost” and fail to produce a good alignment(and actually just crash, as in the screenshot, most of the time if I’m not being careful).
I’m not using RC for a long time and maybe it was effectively not like that a few month ago.
And I agree that I prefer to have a crappy results(hundreds of components with 2/3 images and a few good ones), than just a crash telling it has “facing an unexpected program state”…
