texuture seams, any way to blend between them?

When i create a uv mapped model that uses a tiling texture, iim going to get seams at the edges of the UV islands.
I noticed speetree has a way of blending between textures at the branch intersections branchintersections [SpeedTree Documentation]

does anyone have any ideas how i could do something similar?

triplanar projection is not an option for me, as this is for a tree (which cannot be triplanar textured)
