Texture Reprojection automatically upscales textures?

I’m attempting to reproject a 4k texture onto a simplified mesh. Every time I reproject the 4k texture to the untextured mesh, the resulting texture is 8k. Any suggestions for how to resolve this?

Have you Unwrapped the simplified model before texture reprojection? If so, what were your settings?
