Tessellation on Landscape Cost

Heya,

Let’s say I enable tessellation on my landscape, but I set the multiplier to 0 everywhere but on a single layer. If that layer is only painted on a few select places, am I still paying the tessellation cost for the entire landscape, or just when I approach and actually see those areas where the layer is?

Best regards,
Damir H.

Currently tessellation will still have a fairly high overhead even if you mask out the tessellation everywhere. It is not as optimized as it could be in this case. You may be able to get faster results using POM depending on the content.

I was hoping to utilize the 4.11 displacement collision baking to get some nice details on my landscape but I guess I’ll have to keep relying on static meshes. Good to know, could have lost quite a few hours on that. Thanks!
