Subsurface Issue at distance


I’m having an issue while using the subsurface shading model. The subsurface effect seems to change suddenly based on how far the player is from the object. This wouldn’t be a problem if there was a fade between these states, but they suddenly ‘pop’ as the player moves away / towards. The pop is very jarring. I’ve attached 3 screen grabs which show the effect at different distances.

Can this be resolved?



Why would you use SSS when you have the new Two Sided Foliage lighting model which accurately mimic real world foliage lighting effect?

Because the leaves need to have thickness, they are to be viewed very close up and need to look as realistic as possible. I discovered that by tweaking the shadow bias of the light, i managed to get a pretty good result.

I’m interested in this aswell.
