Skeletal mesh / static mesh for equipment.

Let say i make a potato for equipment. If i throw that potato, is that mean i throw static mesh ?

or should i use skeletal mesh for potato ?

i am not a coder, so i got confused how game work.

Only if the potato itself has an animation, like it deforms or something then it should be skeletal. If it only rotates, moves, scales then it can remain a static mesh.
