Skeletal Mesh for Architecture Question

Hi All,

I’ve been animating some characters for unreal for some time now and have used skeletal meshes from maya. My question is in regards to buildings, doors, etc. Do these typically have skeletal meshes? Or is there another approach to animate a door opening for example in maya and then exporting it into unreal. From what I understand skeletal meshes seem to be the only way to go but I’m curious if there is another option.
