Skeletal Mesh FBX Import Takes a Very Long Time or Crashes

Hey There!

I’m having issues with a skeletal mesh vehicle rigged in blender that I’m importing into Unreal. The model is very highly detailed, 10-15 million polygons.

The import process takes over 8 hours and then consistently crashes.

If I decimate the model in Blender, the fbx will import in a little over an hour.

I was hoping to not decimate in Blender and use Unreals LOD creations to get the lower poly versions but it seems like it’s not capable of handling this highly detailed model.

Any tips on importing very high poly models and reducing the import time/avoiding crashes?

Can you split it into segments / parts and import them separately? 10-15 million is rather large for a single mesh even for a game engine.
