Hello Everyone,
I’ve done quite a bit of animating on various levels (combat and NPC based) with some success. But now I want to be more efficient with my resources. I have viewed tons of YouTube videos on retargetting and compatible skeletons, and I seem to not be able to get the results I am expecting.
I want to be able to use 1 set of animations on various skeletons across the board. For example, Lets say SK_Manny is my main skeleton and I have all of my animations targeted to SK_Manny.
I then bring is Skeletal Mesh1, Skeletal Mesh2 and Skeletal Mesh3, (could be Metahuman, could be Paragon based, could by Mixamo based, etc…) all human based.
MY first attempt was to use the “Compatible Skeleton” functionality on the new skeletal Meshes I bring in. When doing it this way, visually, it looks all deformed and I ultimately wind up having to just retarget all of the animations per Skeleton Mesh (which is truly resource demanding).
Am I missing something here ? Or am I disillusioned to think I can accomplish this ?
One last take, in the new Game Animation Sample Project, the dynamic retargeting does this perfectly meaning, I can bring in any Skeletal Mesh that I want and all the animations that are available on the Default Mannequin, for the most part, works perfectly. But I digress, I have multiple projects in various stages that I am not willing to convert over to GAS.
Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks !
