Saving new or old project WITH MASKS does nothing

For several photo sets, once I add masks (created by exporting them from said project), everything runs normally (e.g., model creation, model coloring, texture creation, detecting markers), but the project will not save.

If I choose any method for saving, the overlay shows up and counts up the time. The progress bar does nothing. CPU and network use are at 0%.

I’ve waited an entire night for one project - nothing!

This is not a network or HDD issue; other projects are fine.
As long as I do not add masks, everything is fine.

Any ideas?

It gets even odder:

When I restarted RC it found an autosave. Which was complete with masks and could be saved.

Hi Hmallison,
this is very strange. But as you had the autosave, it looks like the app crashed during the saving process. Are you using internal HDD? Is this happening for you for each project with masks? Is this also happening after application reset?

Hi otrhan,

it happens for, I guess, about 10% of projects. And not all have autosaves later, so with some I am completely stuck.

I normally use an external fileserver, but two of the problematic projects were on an internal SATA disc. I.e., both the imagery and the project files are normally on the fileserver, and are on the internal disc for those two projects.

This is happening, and I just now realized this is important (sorry!), on a grandfather stand-alone install of RC (i.e. from before Unreal) running with a commercial license.

I’ve just re-set up another PC and fileserver (thus the delay in my response; it took a bit to move all my data) and there run RC through the Epics Game Launcher. I will test what happens there and report.

@HMallison thank you for letting us know. We’ll be monitoring this thread for any updates.

So, this doesn’t happen if I use RC via the Epic Games Launcher. However, I have experienced nothing but crashes trying to load the specific projects I created and had this issue with on legacy install on the PC where RC runs via Epic.

A tad confusing… but I guess this is not an issue the developers should put much effort into. It will die out on its own.
