Hi, does anyone know which renderer should be used for PC/console VR - desktop or mobile? At first glance, the desktop one should be used, but I don’t know if there are performance penalties which make it a bad choice.

Generally, the forward renderer should be used with PC/Console VR
If you’re talking about the ‘Target Platform / Quality Preset’ options on project creation. I’d go with ‘Desktop’ Platform and choose Quality based on how much overhead you think you’ll need. (All settings can be tweaked later)
