Hello.
I have a terrain built that is fairly large (300 meters x 150 meters). I would like to export the terrain in a grid format. Is it possible to have a reconstruction region that is subdivided into a grid and then generate the mesh and textures from the point cloud for each of the grid cells?
From what I have found in the forums and working with RC it does not seem that there is any built-in function, but is there a work-around? Or some technical limitation that prevents this from being possible?
Thanks,
Shane
Hello,
the grid system is not possible but what you can do is set up control points every x meters into a “grid” and then use set reconstruction region on control points and therefore you could do something close to what you expect.
That is basically what I do now. I create a large reconstruction region in RC and export it. I then create a grid of reconstruction regions (outside of RC) that fit in the large region and import each one at a time and filter out all but what is the reconstruction region and then mesh and texture and export from there.
I just thought if RC lets you create a reconstruction region so you can export a section of what you want, then maybe it could allow you to create a grid of reconstruction regions and let you operate on one at time. Bypassing the tedious process I mentioned earlier. There is a another program that supports photogrammetry/lidar data that does it and I was hoping RC would be able to support it as well.
Maybe I will add it to the feature request section.
Thanks for the suggestion though. I will look into that as a possible viable alternative.
Great dear user,
thank you for your suggestions and your will to improve RC.
