Quick question about rotating brushes

Can someone enlighten me on the issue where after rotating a brush 90 degrees I have to manually switch x and y values, is there any way to make the engine do this automatically?
It’s a real annoyance if at some point I decide to rotate a big chunk of the level…

I keep finding similar questions answered with “It’s not possible”, it seems unreal (pun!) that something so basic is flawed.
