Hi Guys,
I’m very glad can join with Unreal Engine Community with you’re awesome guys
I have a question regarding royalty. I have read the license agreement but it still leave me a question.
I’ve plan to start campaign on IndieGoGo. At the IndieGoGo, I’ll post our game video trailer created with UE and also give everyone access to demo game without charge. And I’ll monetize video trailer on Youtube. Is it the royalty applied to my scenario?
And one more thing, about the perks on IndieGoGo. I managed to give a completed game for a backer. I know the royalty is applied, but how can I pay the royalty for UE where the game is still far from complete?
I hope someone can help me.
Thank you for your answer guys.
If you receive ad revenue from the game trailer, then you would have to pay royalty on that (remember, after the first $3,000 every quarter)
If you have a crowdfunding thing setup, and a reward is the game then the cost of the game has royalty as well. So for instance, if a $20 reward is to get a demo of the game, then you have to pay royalty on that $20 since they’re basically buying the game. If there’s a reward that is like $40 that includes the game and a Tshirt, then still only the $20 cost of the game would have royalty.
And that still applies even if the final game will be free, if the only way for people to get access to the game is to pay for it then that counts as selling it.
