Projecting Panoramas on to a laser scanned mesh

Hello everyone,

we are using Reality Capture primarily for processing laser scan data. But we really want to project multiple high resolution panorama from an DSLR Camera on to a 3d laser scanned mesh.

It would be great to have the possibility for every laser scan position to set an external loaded panorama. As in our case the panorama and laser scan position matches exactly. With a simple spherical projection Reality Capture could project the texture from the different laser scan positions on to the mesh. In addition the rotation axis of the panorama should be manually changeable.

A general and proper solution would be to have possibility to place the panorama as a null object(panorama object) in the scene.

This Feature is a key features in several workflows especially in the Visual Effects Industry. As todays feature films often require a lot of CG character integration VFX company need to scan every shooting location and create multiple panorama to get a digital recreation of the set for Lighting, Reflection of the cg characters.

So this feature has a big potential user space as well as many other industries are using a similar approach. Moreover this panorama projection task is usually done in MARI from the Foundry and this requires a lot of manually work for blending the different panoramas together. Reallity Capture has a great system on blending different projections together. Therefore less manually work would be required for this task with Capture. This could lead that more company are using Reality Capture for their work.

If you want a support for spherical projection(aka Panoramas) in Reality Capture please vote for this feature request.
