Problem with importing mesh from blender

I am having some trouble importing a mesh from Blender 2.76. The problem is that the edge split seems to be ignored. I tried applying the edge split modifier before exporting. However, that didn’t fix the problem. It looks like either the Blender exporter or UE4 importer is removing the edge splits and merging the vertices back together. Is there an option I’m not seeing that might be causing this?
