Polycount for android mobile games

Dear All,
I know this is an age old question. I’m curious on how many tri, or vertex count is not too much for a mobile game? I’m curious about the total polys on display. I’m making a very simple game, the only things visible at start will be really the only ones on screen.
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: I want the game to run on weak devices as well, not just the state of the art ones.
Another edit: I won’t be using too fancy materials and rather chose colours with a low res (256 or 512 at most) normal map.
