Physics asset not retargeting properly?

So, I accidentally modeled a fish asset too large. I’d resize and import in MODO, but resizing the skeleton doesn’t work. There may be a way around that, but I figured this was a good learning opportunity.

I simply changed the import uniform scale in the skeleton mesh asset to a more appropriate size. As far as I can tell, the skeleton is being retargeted properly, as seen here:

However, when I simulate physics, the scale of the skeleton is reverting, with horrifying results:

What exactly is happening here? It seems as though UE4 has changed the skeleton scale when all is idle, but the physics asset is causing it to use the original size. Is there a way to avoid this? Can you help me understand the issue?
