I’ve been experiencing constant crashes working within the 4.12.5 editor due to a failure of my graphics card driver. It seems to happen whenever the editor camera is directed towards any complex mesh (more than 60+ tris) in the level. The crash can occur on startup, or at any time while working within the level, sometimes even if the camera is just moved too quickly. This behavior is very strange because I never experienced these issues in past versions of the editor, and I can run games that are exceedingly more graphically intense without issue.
My graphics card is the GTX 660 ti and my current driver is version 368.81.
I tried reproducing this on a GTX 660 with the same driver version as you (unfortunately we don’t have a 660 ti in our compat lab here) but I’m not seeing the same issues. Just to ensure that we’re trying with the same assets, does this happen to you when looking at the Advanced Vehicle Template? It’s the highest tri mesh I could think of in our template content.
Have you recently upgraded your drivers and think that they may be the cause? Please try monitoring your GPU’s heat levels when reproducing this driver crash to see if it could be an overheating problem.
We haven’t heard from you in a while, . Are you still experiencing this issue? If so, have you tried what I mentioned in my previous comment? I’ll be marking this issue as resolved in the meantime for tracking purposes.
I’ve resolved the issue by doing a clean install on my rig. With the 660 I still need to run the editor with the lowest render settings, but at least it’s not crashing every 30 seconds now. Seems like I’ll need to upgrade my GPU soon!
