Nanite mesh with WPO 5.3 doesn't update consistently

I have a nanite mesh and a material that uses World Position Offset. I am basically pushing the top of the mesh upwards off of the mesh like piled up snow. When I save the material, half of the time, it won’t update and breaks the mesh. The shadows still look correct, like they are floating, but the mesh is flat and not extruded like it should be. Then sometimes it will suddenly extrude again.

I am doing this through a layered material as well. Any thoughts?
